Hayes and Coney Hall Councillors have welcomed proposals from Bromley Council to prevent speeding on Gates Green Road outside Wickham Common Primary School.

Following a petition from local residents, as well as support for more anti-speeding measures from the Coney Hall Village Residents Association (CHVRA), Councillors Josh Coldspring-White and Thomas Turrell met staff at Wickham Common Primary School to discuss what action could be taken to curb speeding outside the school.

Following lobbying from local Councillors, Bromley Council is now undertaking a further investigation to explore the feasibility of installing a 20mph sign, as well as a pedestrian crossing.

Cllr. Josh Coldspring-White, who attended Wickham Common Primary School, said:

“I want to thank local residents who drew our attention to this issue. We know how anxious parents have been about both the volume of traffic and the speed of cars on Gates Green Road.

“I’m pleased that Council officers are now looking into what measures could be taken to curb this problem. We will continue to push officers to progress these initiatives and look forward to updating residents.

“I hope this, alongside other measures we have taken in Coney Hall – such as the extension of double yellow lines on Layhams Road and the hedge at Coney Hall Rec – will give residents peace of mind that we continue to do all we can to make sure Coney Hall is a safe and secure place to live.”
