The funding will help to support:

• Priority ecological restoration measures and invasive species control.
•  

Ravensbourne River and wetland interventions to restore the degraded headwater within Keston Common SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

•  
• Conversion of Ravensbourne House Pond into a series of constructed wetlands to treat first-flush urban run-off.
• Reconnection of the river to its floodplain through targeted in-channel restoration, tree hinging and pathway amendments.
• Installation of rain gardens in the car park.

To celebrate the news, Cllr Josh Coldspring-White, in his role as Portfolio Holder for the Environment (Green Spaces), met Larry Herbet, Chairman of the Friends of Keston Common, to discuss the benefits of these works to enhance Keston Ponds. The works will begin later in the year and continue over the next couple of years.

“That’s why I’m delighted to see this grant funding, which will go towards improving the local nature and water quality at Keston Ponds. It will make this special place even better for local residents to enjoy for years to come.”
