Local Councillors, alongside representatives from Residents’ Associations, meet quarterly with our local Safer Neighbourhood Team of police officers to discuss issues around crime and antisocial behaviour.
Officers reported that a prolific shoplifter locally had recently been arrested, leading to an impressive fall in burglary rates in Hayes & Coney Hall Ward, as well as the neighbouring West Wickham Ward. Officers have also undertaken speeding patrols on Heathfield Road after concerns were raised by residents and local Councillors. Following a recommendation from local Councillors, we will seek to do the same for Bourne Vale.
Officers also highlighted that car theft continues to be a key pressure locally. They assured us that a specific operation to tackle the matter is being undertaken on a London-wide basis by the Met.
Cllr Josh Coldspring-White said: “Local residents deserve to feel safe in our community – that’s why it’s crucial that we continue our work with local partners in holding the Police to account, and work with them to make our area even better.
“We were pleased to hear that shoplifting concerns have been addressed, alongside action taken to deter speeding on Heathfield Road, one of our speeding hotspots. We will continue to push for further action on antisocial behaviour, as well as car theft – a major issue affecting residents.”
