Hayes Lane Gas Mains to be replaced

SGN have confirmed that they will replace gas mains running under Hayes Lane.

Gas mains along this stretch of road have caused issues to residents in the past, with Hayes Lane needing to be closed because of burst water mains. As part of new Government funding, the ageing metal gas mains will be replaced with plastic pipes that are more durable and less susceptible to leaks and service disruption.

Local Councillors have called for SGN to replace the gas mains in Hayes Lane for several years, so we are very pleased to see work finally taking place to renew the mains.

The project will take place in phases, with the first phase working up from Mead Way towards Hayes Lane, with temporary traffic signals in place. The second phase will require the full closure of Hayes Lane, which will occur during school holidays to minimise inconvenience.

Cllr Diane Smith said: “As a Hayes resident myself, I know just how disruptive the gas mains along Hayes Lane have been in the past. I’m pleased SGN have listened to the concerns of residents and will work to install up-to-date, reliable gas infrastructure that will make residents’ lives easier.”
