Crackdown on anti-social behaviour on Hayes Common announced

Conservative-led Bromley Council has announced a set of new measures to combat anti-social behaviour on Hayes Common.

A disused quarry at Hayes Common near Redgate Drive has become an informal BMX/bike jump site because of the land’s topography. This use has resulted in increased anti-social behaviour, including tree felling to create new jumps, fires, extensive littering and the establishment of camps. In addition, significant health and safety risks have been identified, such as steep drops, man-made jumps and unstable terrain – all constructed without permission.

To prevent further anti-social behaviour and safety risks, the Council has instructed that the following action be taken.

  • idverde will flatten ramps where possible, clear litter and remove infrastructure that has been installed to support the informal BMX track.
  • Ward Security will increase its presence in the area to help deter anti-social behaviour.
  • idverde will attend the site on a fortnightly basis to monitor and record any changes in use.
  • The ongoing issue will be raised at the Council’s Problem Solving Group to explore further disruption strategies.

Cllr Josh Coldspring-White said: “Anti-social behaviour on Hayes Common has been a persistent problem, so I welcome the action the Council will be taking to ensure such activity is stamped out as fast as possible.”
