Following calls from Cllrs Josh Coldspring-White and Alexa Michael, temporary road safety posters are going to be installed in Chestnut Avenue and Bourne Way to remind drivers to stick to the 30mph speed limit. It is envisaged that the posters will be in situ from mid-February.
For several years, Bromley Council’s Road Safety Unit has been erecting temporary road safety posters to lamp columns across the borough as a way of encouraging drivers to reduce excess speeds.
Experience shows that these posters are useful as a short-term, low-cost intervention. It is considered that they have a positive effect on driver and rider behaviour. The presence of these posters tends to result in a decrease in speed of around 2mph.
After four months, road users get used to the posters and the benefit lessens, so the posters are then moved to a new location.
