Work continues to improve Keston Ponds

Conservative-led Bromley Council continues work to improve the water quality and biodiversity at Keston Ponds.

The first tranche of surveys has now been completed, including preliminary ecology, aquatic, hydraulic and arboriculture assessments. These surveys have helped to identify several priority areas relating to water quality, biodiversity and overall site amenity. The findings have been incorporated into a funding strategy to support the next stages of the project.

The Council is engaging with several statutory bodies, including Natural England, the Forestry Commission, the Environment Agency and Historic England. Although the Round 1 bid to the GLA Green Roots Fund was unsuccessful, Council officers intend to reapply in the next funding round.

Your Councillors are also working with the Council’s legal and estates teams to establish a suitable approach to fishery management. Longer‑term options to regulate fishing activity better and reduce anti‑social behaviour are being considered as part of the wider Water Restoration Fund project to improve the water environment at Keston Ponds.

Cllr Alexa Michael said: “Enhancing water quality and biodiversity is an important part of ensuring that treasured local spaces like Keston Ponds continue to be well used. I want to thank Bromley Council for all their work on the Water Restoration Fund and look forward to hearing about further action in the coming months.”
