After lobbying by your local Councillors, new initiatives are in place to prevent littering at Chilham Way Shopping Parade.
Residents raised concerns with Cllrs. Josh Coldspring-White and Alexa Michael about the increased volume of rubbish around the shopping parade.
The litter was initially thought to be as a result of increased footfall due to the recently-opened Budgens convenience store. However, investigations by Bromley Council found that household waste has increasingly been dumped in rubbish bins, causing overflows.
Following pressure by local Councillors, Bromley Council have agreed a strict twice-weekly timetable to empty bins. Stickers have been placed on bins reminding residents that household waste should not be deposited in local bins.
Cllr. Josh Coldspring-White said: “A lot of work has gone into improving Chilham Way Shopping Parade – and residents are right to be concerned that increased littering mars that progress.
“Alexa and I have been able to persuade the Council to put in place clear measures to tackle this issue but we need to be crystal clear. Anybody using public bins for their household waste is harming the local environment – and they should be aware of the consequences of their actions.”
